In Germany, a team of international researchers discovers a new computed tomography (CT) method that is able to visualize nanostructures in a piece of a human tooth. The method utilizes the scattering of X-rays rather than their absorption.

Dentists say that this new technology may help improve reconstruction procedures for patients with bone loss. They claim that they can use this technology in diagnosis, since it is capable of capturing and measuring minute structures of collagen fibers.

During a recent symposium titled “Transforming Dentistry with Digital Technology,” over 130 international dental professionals coming from 40 countries gathered to discuss the future of dentistry. The focus of the symposium was to see whether digital workflows can improve clinical processes.

After the discussions, they conclude that dentistry really is heading towards a digital future, with exciting possibilities ahead. One of the presentations included utilizing digital technologies in dental education.
